From the humble streets of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Kentrell Gaulden aka NBA Youngboy had early exposure to difficulties. Dropping out of 9th grade of focusing on his rap career was definitely a brash decision. A brash decision that I’m sure he must have regretted shortly after because he was soon arrested for robbery and sent to a detention center in Tallulah, Louisiana. Not a hot start, I know…but he stayed focused on the goal. He used his time in the detention center productively, and started writing lyrics for his debut project. His mixtape “Life Before Fame” dropped in 2015, followed by “Mind of a Menace” “Mind of a MEnace 2” and “Before I Go”. With his fame on the rise, NBA Youngboy continued to drop hit after hit. Even beef with local Baton Rouge rapper Scotty Cain seemed to only boost NBA Youngboy’s rep.
In December of 2016, NBA Youngboy was arrested in Austin, Texas, on suspicion of attempted first degree murder, connected with an elleged drive-by shooting. Reports claim that NBA Youngboy was one of three passengers connected to a drive-by shooting in the 2000 block of Kentucky street on November 2, 2016.
